They may be manually settable, or locked so that they can only be updated by specific events, e.g. the uploading or approval of a particular document or the receipt or processing of a candidate reference. Compliance documents may be set to require signature and stamping so that the trail of approval can be audited.
Expiry dates are easily monitored with visible triggers in advance of expiry. The placing of candidates will be blocked if they are not compliant for the job.
